How to Get Involved in Makeup Sales

The largest names in makeup sales include Avon and Mary Kay cosmetics. Each has sellers in a multilevel marketing campaign, that allows for a greater gain in profits and strongly encourages recruitment. These cosmetics come in a catalog and sellers (or customers) host parties, supplying food and a venue in exchange for a discount. This model is quite popular and cuts overhead dramatically.

  1. First: Signing up

Going to the Avon or Mary Kay site makes it easy to sign up as a seller. Usually, sellers must purchase a cosmetics starter kit, including various samples to demonstrate at parties. Generally, these kits are $100 or less.

  2. Second: Hosting and selling

An experienced salesperson assists with the first and possibly second sale, so they can observe and offer advice. After that, you remain the sole seller. Mary Kay allows sellers to use their website free for six months to assist in sales, but it costs a nominal fee after that. Getting customers usually means recruiting family and friends, but successful sellers branch out from this. You never know when a sale is possible, or a new market opens up. Talking to people at the library, a PTA meeting or even in the doctor's office can yield sales. Selling cosmetics is not a job for shy people.

  3. Third: Other tips

Another important sales tip is appearance. If you have ever gone to a makeup section at Macy's, then you may have noticed the women appear very neat and clean, almost glamorous. As a makeup saleswoman, you need to do the same. No one wants to purchase makeup from someone who does not wear any.
