How to Get Involved With Freelancing

Freelancing is rapidly growing in popularity. Many people turn to freelancing when traditional labor markets are depressed. Others look to freelancing for the flexibility it can offer. Is this a good alternative for you? These two simple steps can help you decide.

  1. First: Think about your passions

For a moment, set aside all other considerations. Take time, money and any other potential restrictions out of the equation. If you held a magical ability to go anywhere or do anything, then what would that look like? How would you live, work or play? Write down every aspect that makes you happy. Pay attention to how you feel. Reject every concept that does not feel good. In order to honestly go through this process, you may find yourself editing the list over the coming days. This is both natural and helpful for clarity.

  2. Second: Square passion with now

Freelancing does not mandate doing what you love; however, it is much more likely to end up successful over the long term if you are at least doing something you like. Armed with thoughts about what you love to do, look around for ways to connect that with the marketplace. If you think freelance work is for you, many opportunities exist. An artist might find freelance work creating storyboards. An educator could freelance with a tutor referral agency. Writers freelance with newspapers, magazines and online services. Find a way to go in the general direction of the desires you wrote down. You do not have to achieve everything at once. Formulate a plan and consider your current resources, your personality and your immediate goals. Enjoy the journey toward each part of your vision.
